25TH ANNIVERSARY OF MICHIGAN’S 1997 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP COMMEMORATIVE POSTER
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Michigan Wolverines capturing the 1997 National Championship . The season was spearheaded by cornerback / halfback / flanker / kick returner Charles Woodson . Woodson would win the Heisman Trophy , becoming the only player who was primarily a defensive player to win the award. The Wolverines swept through the regular season with relative ease and they beat Washington State 21-16 in the Rose Bowl to finish the season unbeaten: 12-0. Woodson’s “Heisman Moment” came in the final regular season game against Ohio State. In the second quarter, with Michigan leading 7-0, Woodson returned a punt for 77 yards past the Buckeyes’ bench and into history. The Wolverines would won the game, 20-14, and two days later be crowned by the Associated Press writers poll the 1997 National Champion.
