This is a rare, vintage original fine art advertising illustration from 1992. It was created for use with Buick marketing materials.
The image is a wonderful example of traditional media that was used in the automotive industry. It was created by the Skidmore Studio in Detroit. These kinds of fine art automotive advertising illustrations are becoming more and more rare/desirable because photography and new digital processes have all but replaced traditional media in the category. This original illustration would look great framed in a man cave or office, and make an interesting conversation or nostalgia piece for any advertising collector or automotive enthusiast.
The hand-painted (Gouache, pronounced "gwash") image is airbrushed on a 23" x 20" illustration board that has been "peeled" for high-resolution drum scanning as was the practice at the time for print reproduction. The intended crop or mat opening is approximately 16" x 22" (see sample cropped image, matting not included), but this can be increased or decreased slightly because of the overscan area.
The paper shows a bit of age, but overall the piece looks great. There is a small tear in the upper right corner and places where the image was taped that would not show when matted.
Because the illustration has been peeled for reproduction, it will be shipped in a mailing tube.
